Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29th June 2026

Chopute ("we," "us," "our") operates the website chopute.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDPA) and other applicable data protection laws.

1. Information We Collect

From you, the user:

  • Name, email address, and phone number when you sign up or contact us
  • Payment information when you make a purchase (processed by our payment provider — we do not store full card details)
  • Search activity within the Service (the businesses and cities you search for, saved to your search history)
  • Communications you send us (support requests, WhatsApp messages, etc.)

About third-party businesses (the leads you search for): Chopute's core service involves surfacing publicly available business information — names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, websites, and ratings — sourced from public business listings and directories. This data is not personal data about you, but about third-party businesses, and is provided to help you, the user, identify potential clients or contacts.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the Service, including processing your searches and saving your history
  • Process your payment and grant access to the Service
  • Communicate with you about your account, support requests, or updates to our terms
  • Improve and maintain the Service's performance and reliability
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following bases:

  • Contractual necessity — to provide the Service you've paid for
  • Consent — where you've given it (e.g. marketing communications, if applicable)
  • Legitimate interest — to improve and secure the Service

4. How We Share Information

We may share your information with:

  • Payment processors (e.g. Selar, your bank, or card processor) to complete transactions
  • Service providers who help us operate the platform (e.g. hosting, analytics)
  • Legal authorities, if required by law

We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Search history is retained as part of your account unless you request deletion.

6. Your Rights

Under the NDPA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Object to certain types of processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@chopute.com.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No system is 100% secure, but we take this responsibility seriously.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.
